An exciting and very varied role covering a wide range of strategic topics, consulting c-suite employees on new technologies, making key decisions on VMO2's mobile and fixed networks and acting as a technology leader in large-scale M&A and key network transformation initiatives. Some highlights include:- Providing strategic analysis and technological support to the network build teams (Fibre Upgrade/NetEx) to deliver critical CAPEX savings, driven by technology/process innovation and simplification/standardisation . These networks will cover 21m homes passed by 2028.- Acting as network workstream lead for successful network M&A activity (Upp acquisition) in 2023- Integral part of the network team to deliver a successful nexfibre bid in 2022 to support a £4.5bn investment to deliver 5m homes passed- Resiliency champion and key decision maker for the new XGS-PON network architecture (metro+access) - guaranteeing regulatory requirements are met and setting the architectural standards that will support millions of future households- Ad-hoc technology assessments and analysis to deliver improved capability for customers, network simplification or reduction in TOTEX (e.g. platform, device, architectural change)- A large number of presentations to the wider business (including c-suite employees) on strategic and technical topics, as well as external stakeholders such as customers or vendors- Led the network configuration for two PR events - delivering to very tight timelines and working with a cross-functional team across the wider business- Since Aug 2022 have co-led the Technology Graduate Learning Scheme

8 months spent working side by side with the Chief of Staff as part of the CEO’s core team, supporting the CEO with day to day reporting, c-suite governance and ad-hoc project management This role provided excellent exposure to executive committee practices and the operation of a Tier 1 ISP, including financial reporting and key decision making.

In this role I was able to learn and practice IP-based networking across core and backbone architectures. The primary objective was to provide a market assessment on disaggregation and the capabilities of white box for core network applications. This assessment would summarise the industry leaders for hardware, software and merchant silicon, as well as analysing popular routing architectures (Clos, Modular, etc). The assessment involved interacting with vendors globally, maintaining stakeholder relationships, gathering critical information and concisely reporting this back to senior management/executives.The placement involved work with vendors such as Cisco, Nokia and Juniper, alongside a wide variety of white box vendors/start-ups.

This was an optical based placement looking into the transmission and network architectures across the core and metro network for Virgin Media. Activities included:- Ethernet technologies and fundamental high-capacity core network practices- Network management systems (NMS)- SONET/SDH networks fundamentals and analysis- SDN, automation & path computation elements (PCE)- Network provisioning, monitoring & configurationVendors worked with:- Infinera, Ciena, Nokia, Cisco, ECI, Juniper, ADVA

Project management of the deployment of trunk fibre (244f and 588f) between regional hub-sites, alongside site migration management. Activities included:- Project management of trunk fibre installation- Plan, survey, R&R & civils tracking/management- External contractor engagement- Site migration planning and execution- Access network fundamentals, including RF design and fibre-deep solution implementation

I was part of a wide selection of national and international projects, client interaction was a key part of this role.
