Profile bio

About Mason Newark, Ph.D.

My agricultural career started shortly after graduation from Cornell University. I first joined the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension where I explored soil-borne pathogens and microbiology to enhance soil health and crop yields. Afterward, at the University of Maryland, under Dr. Kathryne Everts' guidance, I managed lab personnel and conducted fungicide trials, delving into plant pathogens' complexities.Completing my Ph.D. at the University of Florida, I investigated Stagonosporopsis spp. on cucurbits, unraveling fungicide resistance profiles and population genetics. During my graduate work, I collaborated with other labs both in-state, out-of-state, and internationally to elucidate the global impact of this plant pathogen.Transitioning to industry, I joined AMVAC Chemical Corporation in 2017 where I served as a product development specialist, managing trials across Florida and Georgia, contributing to the company's portfolio by providing technical expertise as a technical product manager. In 2022, I joined a startup called Bee Vectoring Technology where I manage and collaborate our unique application technology and our biological control agent. Our innovative approach, utilizing honeybees and bumblebees, allows growers to precisely target flowers during an environmentally sensitive time to deliver crop protection without harming pollinators.Reflecting on my journey, each step underscores the power of curiosity and dedication in advancing agricultural excellence. From academia to industry, my experiences have shaped my commitment to innovation and sustainability in combating plant pathogens and nurturing healthier crops.Specialties: plant pathology, disease control, data analysis, writing and developing protocols, lab work, fieldwork
