About Mason Powers

I am a University of San Diego, Mechanical Engineering, graduate, who knows when to put down the calculator and pick up the hammer. Currently, I am assisting the FOX Factory Team in designing and manufacturing high performance suspension components to make vehicles faster on and off road.I have a passion for anything where speed is involved and causes a rise in adrenaline. This passion has blossomed into what defines me as a person today.I am a top-tier performing Mechanical Engineer who loves going fast behind the wheel of a car and plans on using his degree to go faster. I would describe my self as self-motivated, driven, and able to assess problems and resolve them accordingly. As a student, I set my self apart from my peers by being well rounded in both aspects of the field, the hands on aspect and the theoretical aspect. My passion lies within motorsport and pushing the limits of all things that utilize internal combustion as their primary propulsion. I plan on adding notches on my belt that include alternative energy such as hydrogen and electric propulsion. I attended the California Maritime Academy where I assisted in the operations of some of world's most powerful machines. These machines which consist of Diesel, Steam, and Gas-Turbine propulsion, allow the world to become more interconnected through trade and communications. I strengthened my knowledge of how things work by getting an applied hands on education along side my theoretical education. I graduated, with honors, from the University of San Diego and have used my theoretical knowledge to vastly improve the way I approach and attack engineering problems

Lead Project Engineer/ Mechanical Engineer Ii/ Aftermarket Engineering Team Leader
Fox Factory Jun 2019 - Present

On top of the previous position's roles, these are my added roles and responsibilities for my new position:I designed the JEEP Gladiator MOJAVE IFP Bump Stop and carried that technology into the aftermarket space. In this position I focus heavily on the development process. As the company grows, I am actively developing the aftermarket development process by working with a cross functional team to better hit launch dates and better understand the back end of the business. This ultimately improves shocks labor and over head costs and reduces missed launch dates.I am currently designing and implementing a standard length and modular part set to better aid our aftermarket application engineers with aftermarket shock fitments as well as improve inventory and logistical issues with in the company by reducing inventory by using fewer parts.I work on annual and quarterly budgets to implement new technologies within the aftermarket space.I design and implement FOX's full line up of shock offerings for the aftermarket. 2.0 IFP, 2.0 Remote Reservoir, 2.5 FRS, and 3.0 Internal Bypass.Multi-course training in CREO Parametric and GD&T.

My job at FOX is to communicate directly with our customers (OEM and Aftermarket) and design high performance dampers that facilitate their needs. I work within a multi-disciplinary team to create high performance, OEM and Aftermarket shock absorbers for a range of vehicles both on and off road. I have experience in designing position sensitive dampers both internal and external bypass. I have worked closely with the developers of Active and Semi-Active dampers. I have completely revamped the Aftermarket parts set to improve reliability and improve manufacturability of our shocks, while adhering to IATF standards and a Stage Gate process. For each project I take on, I am the Engineering Project Lead, Project Manager, Design Engineer, and Applications Engineer. I believe in a Cradle to Grave approach to every project I have taken on and have had great success with that strategy. I take concept to reality and test each idea to the fullest. My biggest projects to date are the JEEP JL, JEEP GLADIATOR, and GM 1500 Factory Race Series 3.0 Internal Bypass with Recirculating Reservoirs, the new Fox Aluminum Factory Race Series 2.5 Monotube Shocks, and the New 2.0 Performance Series IFP and Remote Reservoir Shocks. I have also take it upon myself to improve on current product designs like FOX's 2.0 IFP Bump Stops which have undergone a complete re-design to improve quality, seal life, manufacturability/ assembly, and reduce initial contact noise.I am an enthusiast which means I care about the customer and what they want, because I am the customer. My motto here is Race on Sunday, Design on Monday and that allows me to create products that I can be proud of and that can make customers vehicles reach a level of performance they didn't know was achievable.Primary focuses:Design EngineeringApplications EngineeringProject LeadershipProject Management
