About Mason Weems
I am an energetic, effective, and organizational leader, who believes that “good enough” is never good enough. I am passionate in helping others achieve their potential through ensuring their inspiration and curiosity while supporting their integrity and well-being. No matter where I work, the well-being of my teammates, and their goals are important to me.I am a self-starter. If you want to get something done, everyone knows to come to me. I thrive in environments where I work from the ground-up to push new, creative ideas forward. As a graduate student, I developed a fabrication pipeline to recreate an additively manufactured construct from a histologic image. This led me to present my work at the BMES national conference in 2021. I even push these boundaries with my passion projects. I started a fun, competitive student sports organization centered around Quidditch. I don’t like to advertise this fact, but I’d do jobs like this for free.I’m an effective communicator because I value the importance of listening first, speaking second. It’s what led me towards a graduate degree in biomedical engineering, pushing myself to uncover critical insights into deep questions about cancer. I dig into difficult questions and work with others to find those answers. Since then, I’ve flourished in various laboratory skills, such as cell culture, tissue engineering, bioprinting, and advanced 3D imaging. I’ve also pushed myself to gain knowledge in seemingly unrelated topics, such as laser system design, image analysis, and biomaterials. However, I didn’t gain this knowledge alone. I sought out collaboration and cooperation opportunities to achieve mutual aims. While in graduate school, I’ve collaborated with Albany Medical College, GE Global Research, and the University of Western Australia on projects involving cancer cell receptor expression and tumor elastography. My Gallup Strengths are: Intellection - I appreciate intellectual discussion and am very introspectiveCommand - I make my presence known and make critical decisionsAdaptability - I respond to problems as they arise and discover as I goArranger - I organize for maximum productivity and calm my teammatesEmpathy - I sense the feelings of others, listen to them, and acknowledge themI’m constantly looking for opportunities to meet new people, sharpen my skills, and grow my Learner’s mindset. I look forward to building our professional connection. And when we do, make sure to ask me about my morning workout routine. It’s a little “different.”
