Intern at UNHQ with the Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH) under the purview of the Department of Operational Support. I work directly within the occupational safety and health pillar. My current projects include: researching peace keeping missions to develop risk assessments of UN medical facilities in mission states, developing additional gender and sexuality resources for field personnel, and creating medical trainings on gender sensitive care.

Managed the Cancer Services Program, which offered free cancer screenings and diagnostics to uninsured and underinsured patients. Through this I enrolled 16 patients in the program; acted as patient navigator to 28 in three months. Used underutilized health data to create a comprehensive spreadsheet of critical patients due for women’s health screenings. Helped to develop the Abnormal Pap Test Task Force to systematically outreach underserved patients and to measure the effectiveness of our efforts. Currently, we have outreached 217 patients. I also conducted health education via waiting room talks on colorectal health, panels on menstruation and women’s health, and tabling on nutrition and diabetes. In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, I have been acting as a patient navigator for our most at risk patients: helping connect patients to resources to ensure all their needs, health and otherwise, are met and they are able to stay safe/maintain their health in this time.

Assessed workplace hazards and stressors for retail workers in the Cannabis Industry; from this assessment a research study was developed on sexual harassment and gendered violence in the workplace, using survey tools and in-depth interviews. Created an informational poster on sexual harassment reporting procedures, coping mechanisms, and additional resources as well as a sample sexual harassment policy for the Union to implement in future contract negotiations. All 240 Cannabis members of UFCW 770 were reached by these deliverables.

Developed the Income Self-Certification Pilot Program, the Transitional Housing Assistance Pilot Program, and Low-Income Community Advisory Committee for the public utilities, all initiatives increasing the accessibility of the City’s Low-Income assistance programs to hard to reach communities. Worked on Inter-Department Team with the City’s Low-Income Programs and conducted best practice research for the 2019 Marketing & Outreach plan, influencing the goals and initiatives of the plan; including writing key aspects of the amendment of an ordinance. Managed the Housing Partnership Program, a program to discount the utilities of people living in affordable housing. Maintained the utility’s 20 partners and developed 5 new partnerships with housing providers.

Created and lead a volunteer program for all of the Youth Programs for the City of Santa Monica. This included designing volunteer materials: applications, volunteer manual, volunteer handbook, and an orientation curriculum. Recruited 20 volunteers and started 5 new sustainable corporate partnerships. Reported to three different city departments. Created different deliverables and programs for the unique needs of each department as determined through extensive interviews and resource assessments.

Reconstructed the curriculum of the IRC’s cultural orientation program for new refugees going through the resettlement process by creating new culturally-sensitive, trauma-informed and translated materials as well as scripts for volunteers running the cultural orientation. Conducted 20 orientation sessions with various refugee groups. Worked closely with case-workers, volunteers, and refugees who had been through the resettlement process to ensure the needs of the refugees, not only the governmental requirements, were being met. Developed asset-maps and resource guides for the participants through this process.

Worked with case workers and customer service to help answer participants’ questions and to help with the application processes. Utilizing customer service and Spanish language skills. Processed documents for participants and reorganized the filing system for the MediCal department, bringing a backlog of 6 months of unorganized paper work and unprocessed applications up to date.
