As Sensory Panel Manager at BAT I was responsible for coordinating all aspects of sensory panel operations. This included engaging with project teams in order to develop or determine appropriate sensory evaluation methodologies, managing the recruitment and training of internal sensory panellists and ensuring a duty of care to sensory panellists was maintained. Key accomplishments included the creation of a trained aroma panel, increasing efficiency of qualitative sensory evaluations and incorporation of rapid profiling methods into the sensory toolbox at BAT.

At Unilever I was responsible for the delivery of sensory evaluation and consumer science to a range of projects across home and personal care categories. In 2012 my work focussed on olfaction where I was responsible for proof of principle work investigating the consumer-related benefits of new technologies in a range of home and personal care products. My role entailed designing, planning, conducting and analysing sensory experiments and disseminating their findings to the appropriate internal stakeholders. I was responsible for reviewing the methodologies used by a number of ongoing sensory and consumer panels to identify and implement improvements in discrimination and efficiency.In 2013 I took up the role of leading the tactile and visual sensory assessments for the deodorants category, delivering insights for new deodorant technologies into two project teams. I managed an expert trained sensory panel to investigate the influence of new technologies and ingredients in deodorant formulations on the perception of consumer benefits or associated sensory negatives.
