Working to make the hiring process a truly collaborative, data-driven endeavor with transparency and accountability among everybody involved. I built the SaaS application solo, from scratch, using AngularJS, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Heroku. Worked on the pitch deck, talked to potential investors and potential customers. It didn't pan out, but I definitely learned a lot.

Chief architect and technical head of software development efforts at RPX Corporation. RPX helps companies manage their exposure to patent litigation through defensive buying, acquisition syndication, patent intelligence, and advisory services. As the first software development hire, I architected and spearheaded the development of our information management tools and client-facing web applications to provide patent intelligence and analysis. Hired the department from scratch to over a dozen while remaining hands-on as a developer as needed, through the company's IPO. Worked with Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Solr, Amazon EC2/S3 and Chef, Salesforce, and extensive data aggregation focused on data cleansing, disambiguation, analysis and visualization.

Was head of engineering for this small VC-backed startup, helping online merchants to easily manage their data feeds for the top shopping engines. Managed team as well as doing hands-on development work. Began moving the company to Ruby and Rails on Amazon EC2 while continuing work on existing Perl codebase.

As the second engineering hire (employee #10), performed hands-on design and coding initially, transitioning to a management role as the company grew. Engaged in product management, specification, and project management as well as software architecture, hiring, and mentoring. System was a Java/J2EE application using JBoss, EJB3, and Spring.

Managed the engineering department for this boutique professional services company, and acted as lead software architect. Worked with Fortune 500 corporations to build and support their internet and intranet applications. Reporting to the company president, grew department from two engineers to over twenty people, including development and QA groups. Development was primarily done with Java/J2EE, Weblogic, Oracle and Solaris.

Worked with CTO to define product architecture and did active development of a Java-based peer-to-peer software platform targeted for Enterprise Application Integration solutions. Utilized patented technology for intelligent agents to load balance and offer redundancy and scaling for distributed business process implementation.

Was architect and head of engineering for early-stage startup offering user-generated video content on a social networking web site.
