Crush Yard is creating something new in restaurant entertainment ("eater-tainment"). Our first location opened in Charleston, SC, USA in September 2023 and we plan to quickly expand to Orlando, Nashville, and beyond. In my role as CTO, I'm building software systems that enable new kinds of entertainment and a first class digital experience across Crush Yard's customer touchpoints.

The Solutions Architects are a team of seasoned engineers that own Somo’s technical relationships, design software solutions, evaluate technology options, and oversee implementations. I was regularly part of sales efforts and responsible for the delivery of projects in the millions of US dollars.My notable client projects included an award-winning sales app for De Beers used in retail stores in eight countries, consumer-facing news alert apps for The Wall Street Journal, and an immersive multi-platform 3D marketing experience built for OneSubsea.I led Somo’s internal development projects - including an event management platform, a corporate directory system, and an enterprise app store - and ran Somo’s AWS operations.

Blue Ion is an online development and marketing agency. I helped them modernize their Rackspace-based server infrastructure.

sineLabs is a development agency working mostly with the Shopify platform. I planned and executed the addition of a Spanish-language mirror to a Django-powered English-language site.

On moving back to Charleston, I founded a startup trying to bring machine learning powered social search to residential real estate.I brought together a network of designers, advisors, and developers to build out a prototype and establish our vision and identity.Relocality was selected to participate in the Iron Yard’s accelerator program and I led our efforts to bring investment by directly pitching seed investors in New York and Charleston.Relocality’s mission was validated when we were selected to speak at an Inman conference. Inman is widely recognized as the most forward-looking name in US real estate.

I joined Lokku as a very early stage startup in London building a real estate listings aggregator and search engine.We secured angel and institutional investment and went from four guys in a closet office to a profitable company of 20 employees helping millions of people across four continents find their next home. Lokku eventually had a successful exit by acquisition.Under my leadership we were early adopters of test driven development, loosely-coupled service-oriented design, and continuous deployment.Of my achievements at Lokku, I am most proud of having built the right culture, relationships, and processes to enable a small group of senior engineers to efficiently leverage a steady stream of enthusiastic interns, the best of which became full time employees. This model served both our short and long term staffing needs in a very competitive hiring market.I led a global search to select an offshore development partner for Lokku and managed the relationship with the selected provider.

Overture was the startup that created search advertising. It was acquired by Yahoo.I started my time with Overture in London as a member of an engineering services team working with Yahoo’s distribution network including Microsoft, Amazon, and AOL.I was later promoted to lead the European element of this team and then promoted again and relocated to LA to lead the global team.In these roles I learned many lessons about managing partnerships and clients, working within large organizations, and server operations at global scale.

New.net was a LA-based first wave internet startup trying to crack open internet domain naming. During my time there I built a number of web properties and backend systems using a mixture of LAMP and J2EE approaches. I was also responsible for supporting business development efforts in London.

idealab! is the granddaddy of internet incubators. I started working for them as a contractor at their Pasadena offices. In June 2000, I came on full time and was sent to the newly-opened London office as a technology envoy from HQ. During this time, I worked on a variety of projects for a number of different incubating companies. My notable projects included Linux kernel code to create a highly available load balancing system, a number of LAMP websites, and a Windows-based SMS gateway written in C++.

The summer before I started college I worked for a company that was even the world leader in software solutions for charitable giving. I mostly wrote test automation scripts to put the Visual Basic app through its paces. It was a formative experience that helped me understand early the value of good tests and testers.
