After 28 years with Maroondah, and two disrupted years of Covid, i reflected on what is really important in life and packed up my life in Melbourne and have headed off on the trip of of a lifetime with my very supportive wife and family. We are touring through NSW and Queensland in our caravan, being not yet grey nomads, living the dream as they say. The current plan is to settle down again somewhere in Queensland in the coming months and resume my career.I believe I have a lot to offer a prospective employer. As Superintendent I was responsible for overseeing the maintenance operation at Ringwood including renovation, recruitment, OH&S, chemical & fertilizer selection and application and continuous improvement & development of better drainage through sand capping, wear tolerance through construction of larger tees and a complete restructure of the fertilizer and nutrition program.I was responsible for the creation of and overseeing a budget of over $700,000, machinery maintenance and contractor management, I was also part of the team that successfully integrated the transition of the Maroondah Sportsfields into the turf management team from Parks and Works.This role was diverse and involved the co ordination of over 20 staff in conjunction with two other coordinators.Also while undertaking this role, I was the president of the Maroondah Social Club for over 5 years in which I was involved in planning and delivering numerous social activities and gained valuable experience in events planning and delivery, working closely with the team at Karralyka.

This was a secondment opportunity I accepted to enhance my skills in a different part of the operation.In this role I was responsible for budgeting monitoring and reporting attendances, stock levels, rostering staff recruitment, customer service, development of new initiatives and retail sales, OH&S, marketing and daily operations of the golf shop.

In 2003 council took the management of Dorset Golf Course back in house at the conclusion of the maintenance contract. This opened up a number of positions and I was successful in obtaining one of two Assistant Superintendent roles on offer.In the role of Assistant Superintendent, my management skills including budgeting, recruitment, staff management, project design and construction really came to the fore. I also had several opportunities to deputise for both the Superintendent and Golf Course Manager.

On completion of my apprenticeship, I was offered the role of Senior Groundsperson. This role saw me further my knowledge in turf management and staff management as i was able to deputise for the superintendent during short periods of absence. I also commenced my Advanced Certificate of Turf Managment.At this time, council was going through amalgamations and there was considerable movement and cost cutting. The team was small and there wasn't an Assistant Superintendent.It was while i was in this position that I undertook the OH&S representative training course and held the role of OH&S officer for 9 years, a role that gave me broad experience across all of Maroondah Leisure's facilities

This was my introduction to turf management, having previously completed a year long Advanced Certificate in Horticulture straight after completing Year 12.This was a 4 year apprenticeship, that i completed in 3.5 years due to my diligence and recognition for prior learning.In the apprenticeship, i learnt all the basics including course set up, nutrition, renovations, plant operation and construction
