After college at the University of Kansas school of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, I began working with Betz Laboratories Industrial Division in Lafayette, LA, on a variety of what must be the worst well and surface water sources for any application: sugar cane mills, canned sweet potato retort, carbon black plants and "Pogey" (stinky fish) processing. The time I spent in Louisiana was akin to working on a high-tech oriented, but slave-rowed ship, so I took my diploma and skill set to San Francisco and started Protection Engineering, Inc., in 1988. By correcting the flaws of the larger companies, I could streamline application of the latest chemicals, control/metering equipment and application design, thus righting the many wrongs grandfathered into the process by some of the larger companies at the time.In the San Francisco Bay area we have focused on water, wastewater and energy costs to show relatively tremendous saving for minor water treatment program upgrades. More substantial investments are justified using pilot studies, R&D, and the calculations for ROI-oriented proposals. Protection Engineering has operated for 25 years and I have 30 years of working in the field... observing the results of products & programs designed, each using Protection Engineering chemical formulas and equipment carefully specified through communication with our suppliers and associates.
