Mining Engineer Co-Op

Four Corners, Florida, United States

Used statistical analysis on past geological data of dragline and pit operations and applied that to future geological data of dragline and pit operations to predict future mining output. Then my future output predictions were used in the calculations of the budgeting for future mining operations. However, my main project was constructing a clear loop table. I began constructing the clear loop table by determining how many pumps and what type of pump will be used. Then I began designing my initial clear loop table on paper and presented it to my coworkers, who had a bunch of suggestions. After those suggestions, I started to design my final clear loop table in AutoCAD. The Clear loop table will be used to demonstrate basic principles of the pumping matrix, or slurry, in the mining fields to new engineering employees, management, and pit & plant operators.

Research Support Assistant

Tampa, Florida, United States

Initial at this internship I was researching solar panels and how to model them for the U.S. victory ship which was located at a Tampa port. Then I modeled the solar panels in the Unreal engine 4. However, the higher-ups in the U.S. Air Force had an interest in the modeling of ports, though, they wished for us the model a port in China, called Xiamen. This led me to alter my research from solar panels to the power grid and systems of Xiamen. Since I was a chemical engineer I focused my research on the power generation aspect of the power grid of the port and began modeling the power station which used either liquid natural gas or coal as a fuel for power generation. However, again they were more interested in the power consumption of the port, meaning it should not focus on the power generation. Yet, given the small time frame of summer and lack of accessible data, I was only able to model the power consumption of a single contain terminal. For comparison, the Xiamen either has 10 or 12 contain terminals depending on how you define a container terminal. Though our final product was deemed as a success by our superiors.
