Mateo is an entrepreneur & advisor in the AI, climate, sustainability, and design innovation space. Currently, he is a partner and Chief Sustainability Officer with Sneaker Impact recycling shoes and textiles globally to extend life and create new material streams with end of life shoes and textiles. Sneaker Impact has retail and collection programs nationwide for large brands, gyms, schools, cities, government and orgs. Previously, he co-founded a brand that manufactured rPET fabrics from repreve yarns and domestic manufacturing. He then transitioned into developing an emergency LA supply chain for gown manufacturing for hospitals and government during the pandemic. His group used upcycled SMS from manufacturers to implement into the raw materials. This comprised 10 + factory locations.In 2013, Mateo co-founded an electric vehicle company (URB-E) focused on last mile urban deliveries systems for amazon, UPS & food delivery companies in North America. Oversaw operations and branding. The company is currently expanding into new cities.In 2012, Mateo founded an innovation firm with fortune 500 clients such as nike and developed R&D and climate innovation on four continents with a team of over 50+ science, health, climate experts and organizations around the world. His team created digital design research books and innovation strategies 15 yrs out to develop into the marketplace. Sectors included 11 of the 17 SDGS.In the 2000’s, he headed up and created an entrepreneurial program and accelerator for one of the top design universities in the world (Art Center College of Design), where he is still a professor for entrepreneurship and closed loop solutions.After graduating from the Art Center, he co-founded a pioneering digital agency in LA that created some of the firsts in the industry, including transforming Disney into the digital arena, launching the new Mercedes Benz in North America, creating innovations for niketown and many other clients such as the Olympics, Coca-Cola, NEC, Pioneer, and Motorola.------Prior partner at Emerald Peak Private Equity is an Impact Private Equity firm adding value and impact to SGBs & SMEs in underserved Latin America markets.
