About Mateus Menezes

I hold a Control and Automation Engineering degree from SENAI CIMATEC University Center, and currently, I am a student in the Electrical Engineer Master Program at Universidade Federal da Bahia.I began my professional career with 16 years as a young apprentice of the Rede Bahia television, where I worked for two years. I also have two years of experience in educational robotics at Escola Girassol and six years of experience in Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) projects in mobile robotics and underwater robots at SENAI CIMATEC. In my first project at SENAI CIMATEC, I participated in the design and assembly of Printed Circuit Boards with Surface Mount Technology for embedded systems. These boards were for an inspection robotic device's power management, lighting control, and communication interface. Besides the hardware, I developed the firmware of such systems. It is worth highlighting that the boards' projects gave me first place in the regional stage and second place in the national stage of the IEL Award for Outstanding Higher Education Intern. I also participated in developing packages in the ROS framework for the localization and navigation of a terrestrial robot using data from LiDAR, GPS, and IMU sensors. After working with terrestrial robots, I worked on a project in partnership with the German Institute of Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) to develop an underwater robotic device to inspect flexible joints. In this project, I was responsible for developing electronic fuse board firmware, creating embedded systems C++ libraries, and integrating a motor driver and the device control system. I have been working for the last three years in underwater robot development. During one year, I was responsible for the electronic and electric systems and the specification of navigation sensors for the concept of a hull-cleaning underwater crawler robot. On the next project, I acted in the electronics improvement of an underwater crawler robot for hull inspection, mainly enhancing the robot's power management board. Currently, I am working in the second phase of the underwater robotic device to inspect flexible joints and other underwater assets. I act in the electric and electronic projects and the dynamic control development in this project.
