Senior System Engineer Aix Power
CurrentAdminister and support all aspects of IBM POWER series architecture in a multi-tiered SAP enterprise environment. Current managed environment consists of multiple POWER9 E980 servers, Virtual I/O Servers (VIOS), HMCs, NIM servers and 300+ LPARs. All POWER systems are implemented with highly available VIOS fully leveraging all capabilities of PowerVM. Architect, propose and implement new systems per customer requirements and requests.Major milestones and accomplishments:With the prodigious success of the POWER7+ migration, I was tasked with specification recommendations and implementation of IBM POWER8 E880C servers. In just 18 months, starting from initial planning, procurement, powering, cabling and configuration this assignment is complete; consolidating the physical server environment from 38 to 5 POWER8 E880C servers. Over 200 AIX LPARs were migrated with a majority being migrated live leveraging Live Partition Mobility. The POWER 780 and E880C servers were engineered and implemented to capitalize on the robust features of IBM PowerVM architecture such as LPM.Migrated storage to IBM FlashSystem fronted by a new IBM SAN Volume Controller giving the complete environment sub-millisecond response time to the storage.Installed and deployed SAP HANA utilizing Red Hat RHEL on POWER8 hardware.Oversaw and implemented POWER8 to POWER9 CEC upgrades procured with POWER8 purchase. Eight POWER8 E880C were upgraded to POWER9 E980 servers. Implemented IBM PowerVM Provisioning Toolkit to rapidly rebuild and deploy frame level configuration and virtual I/O servers post POWER9 conversion from templates. VIOS level was migrated to version 3.1 and LPM was leveraged to migrate LPARs. Updated AIX migration scripts and process to support AIX 7.1 to 7.2 which team used to successfully migrate AIX to 7.2 required to fully exploit POWER9 features.Migrated Red Hat RHEL version 7 to 8 in support of SAP HANA on POWER9.
