As an academic coach, I currently work with four students from elementary school to high school and their parents to best prepare them for adult life. We meet for two hours at minimum twice a week.My job includes getting to know the student, their academic habits, the best way to work with them, and how to help them learn and keep executive functioning skills for the future. I have to be able to communicate with the students in a way they can understand and keep them engaged throughout our sessions. I use prepared materials or focus on what the students currently struggle with to maintain grades best and continue learning.

As the Community Engagement Coordinator, part of my role was advertising the club meeting times via the University of Houston's Advertising Televisions. This consisted of researching and contacting 25+ people to place the advertisements, creating eight ads of various sizes, working with the team of officers for club approval, receiving university approval of said ads, and regularly updating the ads each month, as well as teaching the future officers how to use my compiled data form for future use.My role also consisted of reaching out to people in person, whether through teachers and faculty in my classes or through public plant-related functions. Our first major event was Plantcon 2023, where we networked with roughly 50+ nursery and plant-related businesses to receive support throughout the school year. Microlife donated fertilizer & money donations, and we had multiple businesses come visit our greenhouse to give speeches.Essential responsibilities in this role included attending weekly meetings, arriving early to prepare for meetings, brainstorming ideas for the meetings or events through communication with the other officers, and editing our constitution to reflect the values of the 23-24 academic year.

Times were allotted based on availability, and it was a two-hour commitment at least once a week.My experience consisted of choosing to work one-on-one with students with their homework (usually middle school math and science), working in a group of five on English, or working in a different group of five talking about American ideals, such as college preparedness and potential careers.Volunteering with PAIR demanded a concise and thoughtful approach to communication and emotional maturity to recognize how the students were feeling.

As a server, my job was repeating similar tasks to maintain professionalism and elegance. Most of the events requiring these tasks were weddings, with attendance ranging from 50 to 500 people. Tasks included setting up silverware on the tables, maintaining uniforms and appearance, interpersonal communication, serving food in tandem with other servers, and memorizing ingredients in food.I also worked some shifts as a "back of the house" for events of 40 to 400 people, where I prepared the food for the construction of between one and eight hors d'oeuvres, the serving trays and salad plates, constructing the salads, setting out dinner plates, aided in plating/wiping, and cut one to two cakes per shift. I also maintained an organized and clean food area, including a breakdown area where 100 to 800 dishes, cups, utensils, and other miscellaneous kitchen items were packed.
