Ireland

RAW was a fledgling operation in Ireland when I joined in 2002. Over the following 8 years, I lead RAW to become market leader in the Oil Spill Response & Remediation for the Insurance industry, a thriving £2.6m turnover enterprise employing over 30 staff across Ireland and Northern Ireland. RAW was initially operated as a JV with a local Irish firm before striking out on its own in 2003 when I first became Director of Operations. The Irish operations were sold to Randall & Walsh in 2005 & joined the RAW board as Director of Operations for Ireland, overseeing our entry into Scotland in 2008.The time in Ireland gave me a wealth of entrepreneurial experience, real life know-how for managing customers, banks, teams, finances, accountants and shareholders. I encountered all aspects of finance and operations including business development, budgeting, cash flow management, statutory returns, HR, health & safety and quality management.The incredibly challenging business conditions in Ireland during the financial crisis brought us to new levels of focus on competitiveness, cash flow and careful cost management.I implemented financial & business systems in Ireland for integration with our accounting package to meet the financial reporting requirements of the group, and began to assist in the analysis and reporting requirements for the group as a whole.I developed a strong understanding of financial and management accounting from first principles through my role as Director of Operations, as well as through work on special projects to evolve our finance and reporting platforms with the Accountants, Finance Director and software vendors. I joined a joint venture between RAW & local environmental business Patel Tonra as RAW's sole employee in Ireland.My role initially entailed business development, client management, recruitment, project management & environmental engineering. We carried out desktop assessments, site investigations and remediation works across a range of petrol stations and fuel depots across Ireland and Northern Ireland.We became preferred consultants to a number of Insurance companies and their representatives for the investigation and remediation of commercial and domestic heating oil spill claims.

Senior review Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessments for proposed housing developments on land contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons, PAHs, dioxins and heavy metals. Site investigation, remediation & validation on a range of contaminated commercial/industrial and domestic properties. Review and sign off on final reports, cost estimates and invoicing.

Perth, Western Australia

Managed teams of scientists and technicians to deliver a broad range of contaminated land assessment and remediation projects across Western Australia including fuel storage depots and petrol stations, working with facilities management as well as property divestment and acquisition teams to deliver site audit, investigation and remediation services. Conducted detailed quantitative risk assessment modelling, site investigation, remediation and validation, groundwater modelling, pollutant fate and transport modelling, environment agency and local council engagement, remediation action plans, site survey and AutoCAD.Oversaw pricing, subcontractor management, report writing and review. Management of works in remote and challenging environments.Also fuel storage assessments and planning for emergency power infrastructure for remote telecommunications sites across Western Australia.
