• Operates ARC, AC/DC, transformer-rectifier, and constant current welding machines. This includes operation of electron beam welding, spot/seam welding, and silver brazing, as well as numerical control electron beam welding. Uses manual or computerized welding processes to weld a variety of metal and alloy parts and components removed from aircraft and aircraft engines. Determines the welding techniques and machine settings to be used, assembles and sets up the parts to be welded, to include minor preparation work such as wire brushing, grinding, sanding, and blending of the parts as required. Makes the required welds, assuring complete penetration when required as well as complete fusion of base and filler metals. Must control the metal and the weld dimension, tolerance, strength, and other requirements. 100%• Use a wide range of manual and computerized welding processes to make the more difficult welds in the shop. The arc processes used (including inert gas-shielded ones) involve methods such as gas metal-arc, and gas tungsten-arc.• Certified to weld a variety of metals and alloys, ability to weld various metals and alloys to include as a minimum 410 Stainless Steel and A286 Stainless Steel; and, one or more of the following: AZ31B Magnesium, 6061 Aluminum 4130 Steel, 718 Nickel, and 6A1-4V Titanium. Welds are subject to radiographic and metallographic examination that require complete penetration as well as complete fusion of base and filler metals.• Weld parts and structures that may vary in size, shape, and thickness from very thin (for example, 0.032 inches) to very thick.• Apply knowledge of welding standards and how various metals and alloys such as different kinds of steel, aluminum, inconel, nickel, monel metal, brass, copper, bronze, magnesium, and titanium react to different welding processes and techniques.
