Originally from Chicago, IL, Mathias moved to Nashville, TN in the summer of 2011 to pursue a career in audio engineering and music production. Within months of relocating, he found himself under the tutelage of one of the most respected acoustical minds in the country, Steven Durr. Prior to audio engineering and production, Mathias studied the art form of shaping spaces, Architecture. After getting his Bachelors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he practiced architecture in the northern suburbs of Chicago at the prestigious Orren Pickell Building Group. It was here that Mathias built the foundation of thinking analytically and creatively simultaneously. Being involved in a big design-build firm gave him a skill set in client relations and project management early in his career. Transitioning from architecture to audio, Mathias studied at Tribeca Flashpoint College in Chicago’s Loop. He gained a reputation for having an excellent ear and an understanding how sound reacts in different environments. Graduating at the top of his class in May of 2011, the next step was Nashville, Tennessee. After a year in Nashville, Mathias became a Project Designer at Steven Durr Designs (SDD). Combining his talents in architecture and audio, SDD has provided the perfect environment to grow as a professional in acoustics, design, and engineering. In 2015, Mathias was given the title of Associate and has been continually working with the SDD. Yearly since 2013 projects which Steve and Mathias have designed have been featured in Mix Magazines Studio Design “Class of”, an issue dedicated to the best studio designs of the past year. In 2019, SDD was nominated for a Technical Excellence & Creativity Award (TEC) for Outstanding Achievement in Studio Design. In addition to the SDD accolades, Mathias founded his own LLC in 2018 to provide consultation services for smaller projects. Mathias prides himself on conveying complex acoustical concepts in a common-sense manner and finding the best design or solution specific to each client. IPDG is the culmination of almost a decade of experience in architecture, audio and acoustics. In recent years, Mathias has furthered his professional reach and is working in every time zone and 3 countries.Mathias has been selected to the Society of Leaders in Development (SOLID) in Nashville, along with the Nashville Grammy Chapter ‘Grammy NEXT’ program. Both programs select emerging professionals in the music industry and look for the next generation of Nashville in their respective fields.
