Manager Industrial Automation Systems
Director
Rénergies was established as a specialist consulting firm for the renewables industry in Western Europe, born from my passion for renewables. Our traditional business model is based on collaboration with foreign OEM firms to enable local expertise and service for their customers, notably in the French and Belgium markets. The company is looking to expand into the technical service and maintenance of photovoltaic & biomass systems and expand its customer base toward system owners, operators and investors. We provide services to non-technical customers ensuring the optimal performance of their assets and the best return on their investment. We are looking to build solid working relationships with actors in the European renewables sector. Services: Maintenance & troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical systems. Installation of communications systems, sensors and data loggers providing remote supervision and analysis of renewable assets. Design and installation of photovoltaic systems. Consulting services during the due diligence phase of the purchase of renewable assets. IT software development & networking for businesses. General electrical work, including lighting systems.
Field Applications Engineer
Solar Edge Technologies first commercialised in 2010 a high-tech solution to some of the technical issues relating to photovoltaics. Electronics built-in to PV panels provide for a safer and more efficient management of the high voltage DC circuits typically associated with PV systems. DC-DC transformation, combined with power-line communications allow for complete control over the DC network providing for control of individual panels and the ability to cut high voltages at an instant. My role was to handle technical issues from the French speaking customers in France and Belgium and interface with HQ to ensure customer satisfaction. Activities: After-sales technical support to technical customers and end-users by phone and email. Electrical engineering, system design and conformity to local regulations, with some PVSyst experience. Technical training as a before pre-sale strategy and certification of partners for after-sales service. Utilization of SalesForce to manage technical support queues and a knowledge database.
Operations & Maintenance Engineer
Valeco Engineering develops renewable energy projects, starting in co-generation in 1995 the company now operates more than 160MW of wind turbines and 10MW of PV. Valeco works with local communities to develop potential sites with technical and economic feasibility studies done in-house, they also manage the construction phase, the operation and the maintenance of completed systems.During my time in the operations & maintenance department, I performed routine operations tasks, such as: Routine inspections and supervision of subcontracted work. Coordination with the maintenance team to resolve faults. Critical performance analysis and imposition of penalties in the event of suboptimal performance. Power stations generate a massive amount of data, their current state is saved every 10 minutes but they also generate additional streams of information from faults and auxiliary systems such as weather stations. It is impossible for owner/operators to digest all of this information and use it to critically analyse the performance of their assets. I developed software designed to ingest this information and produce concise and human readable reports. This system consists of three subsystems: A “Collector” which remotely downloads the raw data on a routine basis. An “Abstractor” which allowed for the equal treatment of data despite different equipment manufacturers, models or datasets. A “Reporter”, a reporting mechanism to generate periodic reports to a high level of technical detail difficult to achieve by humans alone. Including a graphics utility designed for enormous datasets – too large for an excel spreadsheet or any other traditional data modelling suite.
Project Management Engineer
I provided assistance to the constructions manager during the construction of an 8MW ground-mounted PV system located near Cahors (46) in south-western France, the power station was constructed over six months and handed over to the operations department in May 2011. Consisting of over 34,000 panels, 20 km of rails and 7 central inverters assembled off-site, the construction employed over 40 workers from several subcontractors.
Off-Grid Photovoltaic Designer
Conergy established operations in Australia, buying out Australia’s leading renewables distributor in Sydney and a solar-thermal manufacturer in Perth. I was employed in the technical sales division as a part-time employee during university and was trained in the design of off-grid systems in accordance to Australian standards. In this role I would develop quotes for installers based on requirements and specifications of their customers. Typically, they would supply a list of electrical loads that needed both PV generation, battery storage and axillary electrical protections, such as circuit breakers and fuses.
