As Vice President, Client Relationships & Innovation, of Sun Life’s DB Solutions business, Mathieu leads a team whose mandate is to understand Canadian Defined Benefit (DB) plan sponsors’ challenges and help them find solutions to manage their pension risk. The DB Solutions team creates such innovative and customized solutions that address pension challenges to better protect plan members’ benefits and allow plan sponsors to focus on their core business. Mathieu joined Sun Life in 2015 after working as a pension consultant for 13 years in Montreal and Los Angeles. Over the years, the DB Solutions team has been responsible for many Canadian industry firsts, including the first modern annuity buy-in in 2009, the first in-kind transfer in 2013, the first longevity insurance transaction in 2015, the first active member annuity transaction in 2017 and the first $1+ billion transaction in 2020.After graduating from Laval University in Actuarial Science, Math became a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. He is involved with the FitSpirit organization whose mission is to encourage teenage girls to be physically active throughout their lives and he sits on the Board of the Fondation En Cœur, which helps children with congenital heart disease, as well as their families.
