During the fall of 2023 I have had the opportunity be a part of a project with the Church of Sweden as an intern and report author. During the internship I was responsible for writing the report called 'En reva i samhällskroppen' which examines how employees in the Church of Sweden view the diaconal role and mission in the encounter with undocumented migrants. The report was produced in collaboration with Sensus, the Diocese of Skara, the Diocese of Gothenburg, the parish of Toarp, the parish of Borås, the parish of Mölndal, the parish of Gothenburg Cathedral and the University of Gothenburg. The report is based on in-depth interviews conducted by me with individuals within the Church of Sweden who in various ways encounter people in, or questions about, undocumentedness. The report is further based on a survey sent to employees of the Church of Sweden developed by the working group and observations that I have made within organizations working with undocumented migrants. The project team jointly planned the release event of the report in Gothenburg Cathedral on 16/1-2024 where I presented the results of the report. I have further presented the development of the report in various contexts during the fall and presented the final report in a seminar on the role of the civil society in the encounter and work with undocumented migrants.This internship has provided me with the opportunity to develop my skills in public speaking, interviewing, analytical and writing skills, and in communication such as within the working group and externally with interview participants and civil society organizations. I have further gained experience in meeting and working with individuals that live in extremely vulnerable life situations. I am grateful for the trust and responsibility the project team gave me in developing the report as it has provided me with vital knowledge and experience for the future.
