This new corporation aims at driving large scale ecological restoration through private sector funding.

Global Footprint Network and York University, Toronto, are building its next incarnation to increase reach and impact. The goal is to build a coalition of countries, supported by a rigorous global academic network, that owns and produces the National Footprint & Biocapacity Accounts independently and with highest reliability, so they can inform decision-making in an unbiased way. For this purpose, they are creating a not-for-profit called the Footprint Data Foundation (FoDaFO - www.FoDaFo.org) to be the steward of these National Footprint & Biocapacity Accounts (NFAs), and to reproduce them with the support of York University and a broader academic network.

I am a co-founder of Global Footprint Network which promotes the use of the Ecological Footprint — a resource accounting tool that measures how much nature we have, how much we use, and who uses what. This data-driven accounting metric works like a bank statement, documenting whether we are living within our ecological budget or consuming nature’s resources faster than the planet can renew them. Good accounting, we assume, is helpful to avoid bankruptcy. Currently I serve as a board member.
