Cynthia Mathis, Cpacc Email and Phone Number
I am an educator who chose to become an accessibility analyst after noticing that much of the digital materials students are expected to use for learning and completing assignments are not accessible or user friendly. I have firsthand experience as a person with a visual impairment, and understand the struggle to find accessible digital material, and to be given assignments totally different than other students in class. My goal is to work with web developers and the education sector to allow all students equal access to the same fun and engaging materials, meeting Universal Design for learning (UDL) principles.I make use of web testing skills to be certain that websites and applications meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2) level AA. I utilize strong screen reader skills to manually work my way through each webpage, and noting any accessibility errors before using automated software to detect visual issues such as color.I am an enthusiastic self-starter, seeking to leverage my strong communication, education, and assistive technology skills to secure a position with a company who shares my passion for developing accessible websites and applications, empowering people with disabilities to live there best life. I know that by advocating for accessibility in the academic and community environments, I will be doing my part to create a more accessible, inclusive environment.I have seven years’ experience teaching people with visual impairments, and have worked to become a digital accessibility analyst, to ensure future products follow universal design principles.
