• For seven years, between 2015 and 2023, as a Consultant for Cronyn Observatory, and then as Observatory Curator, Cronyn Observatory, providing subject matter expert advice and strategic recommendations to the Observatory Director in a variety of written communications products, often followed up with verbal briefings.• Representing the Observatory on quarterly meetings which bring together the museum leadership of the City to collaborate on city-wide events ensuring that historical, community, and communications priorities are met. I use these gatherings to build horizontally integrated approaches and solutions with my counterparts at other museums.

For seven years, between 2015 and 2023, as a Consultant for Cronyn Observatory, and then as Observatory Curator, I initiated a project to repurpose three unused rooms in the observatory for historical exhibits. In these reclaimed spaces, I designed three permanent exhibit rooms: a 1940s-era observatory office (2015), a 1960s-era observatory control room (2017), and a 1940s-era observatory workshop (2018). The end result is twofold: a historical museum within the observatory where none existed before, and a venue visited by thousands each year which has University and City spin-off benefits. As a result, I was hired into my current position as Observatory Curator (2021).

As a Science Writer for CPSX in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency, I gained experience adapting complex information for audiences who are not familiar with the specialized terminology to meet broad objectives and facilitate co-operation and consensus.I conveyed information on remote sensing in a common language for non-specialist audiences. I presented complex information and analysis on interrelated issues to ensure understanding of their implications.I provided advice and recommendations to the Canadian Space Agency, including specific lat-longs, to guide photographs to be taken by David St. Jacques from the International Space Station on ISS Mission 58.The (policy relevant and largely sustainability-related) blogs I wrote concerned 'Urbanization'. 'Preserving Canada’s landscape', 'Preserving dark skies', 'Forecasting space weather', 'Oil under the ocean', and 'Monitoring oil use from space'. My communications products were approved and ready prior to the mission and were published with photographs from the ISS as the photographs were taken, contributing to a permanent, geolocated repository of science communication connected to evocative photographs taken by a Canadian astronaut from the ISS.

I showed my ability to plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously by hiring, managing, and directly supervising a cadre of 8 direct reports to code 6 different prototype policy simulations on transportation, employment, and food systems. I also conducted performance reviews, one of the markers of a management role.I verbally briefed, in person, my manager and his manager (the PI, equivalent to verbally briefing senior management), both during the project and at the end of the project. Both recognized me for my final outputs, and my ability to speak to them, evidenced by my being flown to Montréal to brief the funder on the final outputs of my work (equivalent to verbally briefing top management). It also resulted in my being invited to speak for a national speakers series (Inspiring Action for Social Impact, 2013) and co-authoring the Social Innovation Lab Guide—which was published on the Rockefeller Foundation website in 2015 and which has garnered 99 citations.

Research: Following my PhD, I conducted research with the Mass Collaborative Global Governance research group on making collective intelligence relevant to the policy world. Stakeholder Engagement: I led, coordinated, and successfully sought funding for, a national conference at the intersection of mass collaboration and democracy which involved 27 stakeholders from government (federal, provincial, and municipal), academia, not-for-profit organizations, the private sector, and the media. Topics included datamining democracy, algorithmic governance, using simulations for policy-making, and crowdsourcing funding. Publication: To follow up, I co-authored a peer-reviewed paper on internet-and-AI-enabled approaches to UN Sustainable Development Goals, published by the internet and society journal First Monday.
