• Responsible for a vast array of explosives and explosive equipment to carry out Conventional Munitions Disposal (CMD) of explosive ordinance on the UK mainland, liaising with civilian agencies such as Police and Fire services. • Directly responsible for maintenance and operation of explosive engineering equipment such as Remotely Operated Vehicles, X-ray generators, and equipment used in the locating and disposal of explosive devices.• Key member of the Squadron in dealing with the public on various open days and Air-shows, ensuring both the Squadron and the Royal Air Force are seen in a favourable light by the general public. • Responsible for training new members of the Squadron ensuring they all become proficient with all of the EOD equipment.• Worked as part of the team which trialled new explosives on a low order technique known as Baldric. Involving adjusting amounts used in technique and reporting findings.• Organised visits for the Leicestershire Princes Trust group to attend a day at the squadron to build on team building and confidence. Designing activities and tasks for the young adults to complete as well giving advice on opportunities within the RAF.• Volunteered for an operational tour to Afghanistan as a member of an IEDD team, maintained and operated a wide variety of EOD equipment including the ROV, Mastiff armoured vehicle, and various weapon systems. Operating under extreme environmental and physically exhausting conditions maintained a safe and productive working environment.
Weapon Technician/ Aircraft Engineer
• Responsible for the fitment, maintenance and electrical and mechanical testing of weapon systems on aircraft including launcher systems, escape systems and external stores such as 1000lb general purpose bomb, fuel tanks, ejection seats, launcher systems and recognisance equipment.• Servicing and maintenance of the Tornado GR4 aircraft while adhering to COSHH and H&S legislation, often responsible for the rapid turnaround of operational aircraft. • Electrical fault finding on items of aircraft weapons and role equipment.• Safe storage, inspection and accounting of a variety of explosives, and equipment.• Working as part of a weapon load team on an operational tour, showed determination and team work to ensure aircraft serviceability and full armament states, under strict time constraints. Including the delicate task of safely removing and fitting of emergency escape systems.• As an experienced member of the line team, was often given the responsibility of supervising junior members in the servicing of the Tornado. Stepping in when problems raised could not be solved by the junior member, thus allowing the continued serviceability of the jet and minimum disruption to the flight programme.
