During my time as a consultant for Ericsson I ran a project evaluating different products to use as routers and firewalls in counties where US export regulations apply to standard vendors like Cisco and Juniper was not allowed to be used.Spent a lot of time working with Mikrotik routers for use as everything from simple static routers to more complex setups using BGP, OSPF, Ipsec, QoS, Web Proxy etc. Very powerful and competent little boxes for almost no money at all. Which other vendor gives you a router capable of doing MPLS and full BGP for less than USD100?

A short period of my life I tried my luck as a developer for op5. op5 develops Network Monitoring applications derived from various Open Source projects. As a previous user of op5 products and a supplier of patches to projects like Nagios I applied for a consultancy position at op5, but were convinced to become a core developer instead.It sounded fun, but I realized quickly that developing on full-time was nothing for me. Gave me no inspiration at all. I love using development to automate things and solve problems, but doing nothing but developing was just plain boring. End of Story
