Digital Signal Processing Contractor

Mountain View, California, Us

NextInput is a Georgia Tech start-up that develops force-sensitive touch devices. They asked me to develop a collection of digital filters that would improve the performance of their devices.Digital filter design must account for the 3-way tradeoff between noise reduction, signal delay, and the amount of computational resources required. To allow NextInput to choose the best filter for their application and hardware, I created a framework for loading any arbitrary FIR filter to their firmware. Additionally, I provided NextInput with a collection of FIR low-pass filters that were designed to isolate a human touch event from the noise present on their sensors.During the implementation of the filters and framework, I was faced with a difficult design challenge. The hardware being used was very limited in available memory and speed, so the length of the filters needed to be small enough that they could be stored in memory and processed in time. Even with this constraint, I was able to demonstrate FIR filters implemented on their device that outperformed the preexisting filter. In the future, IIR filters may be investigated as an alternative since they require fewer computational resources.

Embedded Software Engineer

Bethesda, Md, Us

While working full time at Lockheed Martin, I was assigned to the MC-130J Special Mission Processor (SMP) team. Even though I was brought onto the the team in the middle of the project, I was able to quickly pick up the development, integration, and testing of core aspects of the SMP when a key team member left the company. The SMP is multiprocessor system that expands the video capabilities of the aircraft, and includes Windows Embedded and network attached storage for our customer to develop their own custom applications.▪ I've worked on the following SMP capabilities: - System health monitoring and failover - Human machine interface (graphics and menu schemes) - Video generation and routing (interfacing with a graphics FPGA) - Peripheral interfaces (keyboard/trackball device and video displays) - Communication between multiple processors via TCP/IP▪ Our team used the following toolset: - Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and Microsoft Visual Source Safe 2005 - Polyspace static code analysis tool (became team expert) - VectorCAST unit test tool - VAPS XT-178 HMI tool - Green Hills AdaMULTI IDE for use with Green Hills INTEGRITY-178B RTOS▪ Our team used the following programming languages: - C++ for embedded code - C# for black box test code and other in-house developed tools

Computer Engineering Intern

Bethesda, Md, Us

During my internship, I was moved around various avionics departments as a software engineer. I aided in the design of the embedded system architecture for the C-130J avionics. Later in my internship I was assigned to software testing, where I learned programming practices for safety-critical applications. Between work assignments, I designed a java application that parsed requirement files to check for logical inconsistencies. The idea is that errors in software requirements could be found before they are implemented in code, saving the company time by preventing rework.
