I grew up in rural Maine working at the family business: an ice cream shop. To better myself, I took advantage of a public-private education at a high school 60 miles away from home, therefore living on my own at the age of 14. I capped my years in high school as an exchange student to Umea, Sweden.I moved to Northfield, Minnesota, to pursue my Political Science and Social Studies Education double major at St. Olaf College. While in school, I kept busy tutoring local elementary students and bartending. I made myself known in the local community and Northfield remains one of my favorite small towns. I ended my time at St. Olaf College in a similar fashion to high school, by spending a semester teaching history in southern India.Upon moving to Minneapolis, I have juggled a variety of youth-based jobs, namely teaching social studies and working with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board as a Childcare Specialist at a number of parks. While living in the city, I have developed a love for good city planning, public safety justice, and active transportation policies.
