The environment was comprised of Windows 2008 servers, Windows 7 desktops, VMware appliances, an IBM AS400 and Cisco networking hardware. The effort involved gaining administrative access to all servers and network appliances, reconfiguration of the Active Directory domain, provisioning of telecommunication circuits, remote recovery of data from a decommissioned data center, and establishing persistent connectivity to the client’s network. We made a concerted effort to establish an effective development lifecycle with an emphasis on efficiency and quality control. Our methodology incorporated agile concepts and relied on test-driven development and automated regression testing. We employed innovative techniques to create on-demand, production system mirrors to support our development and testing environments, manage change control and automate deployments. Our software development efforts were focused on three areas of concern:• Batch data import• Core systems extension• Third party interfacing The implementation of an interface with First Data Resource's merchant processing system enabled debit card access to spending account funds, and allowed PayFlex to emerge as an industry leader. The debit card interface also enabled the development of an automated claim processing system that adjudicated 50% of flexible spending account claims. The implementation of a large-scale fax server and document imaging system reduced paper claim volume by 80 percent. Our primary business systems were off-the-shelf products that limited efficiency and inhibited growth. In June of 2004, we began prototyping a workflow automation tool to support our critical business processes. The success of this project became the basis of an enterprise system that would replace our core business systems and encompass every aspect of the operation. Show less
