I took on this opportunity to expand my knowledge on how to completely run a department in the hardest possible circumstance. Lawn and Garden is very difficult because it only exists for a few months out the year and everything from ordering to inventory is done manually. My thought process was that if I can make this department successful, then I can comfortably oversee multiple departments as an assistant director.Overall, I feel like this endeavor was a success. My team and I were able to achieve a record week in May. Our customers absolutely loved the garden center. We sold more mulch and soil then we ever have, thanks to relentless advertising and pricing and most importantly, the 2018 season was the most profitable season Macomb Hy-Vee has ever had.
