Associate Director - Transport Modelling Lead
CurrentI lead the transport modelling and major projects business area within Arup’s London office. I have a passion for helping lead the industry to better ways of appraisal, moving away from highway focused interventions justified on travel time savings. This has included engagement with the Department for Transport and their updates to guidance along with implementation of innovative modelling tools to support Sub National Transport bodies develop their evidence bases. I actively engage with industry as part of my role as a fellow of the Chartered Institute for Logistics and Transport. I am a trusted advisor in the specification, development and application of operational and strategic transport models and their use to support scheme appraisal for over 23 years. My experience enables me to focus on establishing client objectives to identify appropriate appraisal. This covers a wide range of transport modelling, from region wide strategic model development, to detailed micro-simulation models using adaptive signal controls and innovative modelling including Agent and Activity Based Models. Through this work I have been expert witness, representing councils at Examination in Public of their local plans and at planning inquiry for application sites and acquired extensive knowledge in undertaking modelling and appraisal to support delivery of National Highways major projects through the project control framework.I provide overall team leadership, strategic direction, technical governance and project direction for modelling and appraisal. Working collaboratively and strategically with other modelling hubs to raise the profile of Arup’s transport modelling capabilities. Key roles include client engagement, business development, work-winning, developing new capabilities and propositions which add value to projects, identifying and implementing innovative approaches and methodologies in transport modelling and embedding data analytics methodologies in modelling teams.
