Gb Cycling Team Development Mountain Bike Coach

United Kingdom

I manage the Development Mountain Bike Program. The programme is designed to support and developing talented young British mountain bikers aged 16 - 19. My main remit is to support them to develop the skills and personal attributes they need to go onto to enable them to progress onto a GB Senior Mountain Biking Program. The bigger aim of the programme is to help these young adults to grow into 'better' people and give them skills that will help them in all walks of life in the future whatever and wherever it may take them. I organise and deliver a of training camps and opportunities to races both nationally and inter-nationally. Mainly we compete in a range of Mountain Bike events in from regional rounds to the World Championships. I also encourage opportunities within other disciples such as Road Racing, Cyclo-cross, MTB Marathon and Enduro. It is also my responsibility to providing each member of the Development program a bespoke, day to day training plan, technical coaching and the delivery of many off the bike, lifestyle workshops. These cover a wide range topics from Goal Setting and Feedback to Bike Maintenance and PAcking for Travel. One of the highlights of my role was to take a team of 4 Junior mountain bikers to the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina in Oct. 2018. They represented Team GB in the Combined cycling category which included both road, time trial and Mountain Bike events over five days of racing. It was an amazing opportunity and we returned successfully with a Bronze medal. The first ever Combined Cycling medal for Team GB at a Youth Olympic Games. I work very closely with the Lead Podium GB Mountain Bike coach. I often assist and sometimes lead on facilitating training and racing opportunities for Senior Academy GB riders.

Gb Cycling Team Race Mechanic - Paracyling Lead Mechanic

Manchester, United Kingdom

My role was as Lead Mechanic for the GB Paralympic Cycling Team. However I also worked on national and international able-bodied track events, mountain bike and road events alongside providing cover to all GB programme athletes on a daily basis whilst based within the GB Cycling Workshop at the Manchester Velodrome. I was head mechanic for the Rio Paralympic Games. Here I was responsible for both Track Cycling and Road Cycling. The Road side of the team included road racing and time trailing on solo road bikes, Tandems, Trikes and Hand-cycles. This was an fascinating and extremely challenging role in a high performance environment. I was highly trusted and fortunate to work closely with athletes, coaches and at times third party companies such as Nissan and Williams with regards to developing custom made trikes, tandems and hand-cycles. Many Para Cycling athletes had bikes with custom adaptions to meet their needs. This ranged from simple things as strategically placed electronic gear shifting buttons programmed to do less common functions, single sided dual operation of brakes to more advanced modifications such as making elbow operated brakes for hand-cycles, custom skis for Time Trial bikes and much more.A very challenging position yet highly rewarding to be part of a World Class elite sports team. I was an integral part helping to deliver multiple World Cup, World Championship, World Records and Olympic Medals.
