Profile bio

About Matt De Lise

I started on an engineering track in middle school when my dad purchased a 1982 Corvette collector edition and we started working on it together. Entering into high school I would take engineering related electives like Drafting and continued working on cars when I got my first one at age 16. By the time it was time to look at colleges I knew that Mechanical Engineering was what I wanted to study. I chose Marquette University in large part for its well know engineering co-op program. So I was excited to land a engineering co-op position at Briggs & Stratton after my sophomore year. This was a wonderful opportunity to see so many different aspects of engineering through the various department rotations. They even let me setup and run the dynamometers! It was a summer rotation in the New Product Development group where I realized I definitely wanted to be part of the design and development of products. My career as a degreed engineer began as a contractor at Briggs & Stratton in the Small Vertical Engines group, supporting existing engine designs and the other engineers in the group as a sort of "junior" engineer. I moved along the learning curve quickly and before long was getting assigned my own projects and more responsibly. After about a year as a contractor the engineer that had been my main mentor moved departments and his position opened up, for which I was a natural fit. All my time at Briggs & Stratton has provided me with well rounded engineering experiences. My role there had me wearing many different hats so to speak. I was happy to experience this because it provided variation to the types of things I was working on. I enjoy learning and doing a multitude of new and different engineering activities.

Listed skills include Design For Manufacturing, Product Development, Design Engineering, Design Of Experiments, and 5 others.
