I’m an apprentice technician. I’ve been with the company for for 16 years now, I started as a driver then I started a new role in the depot. 3 years ago I moved into the cvrm department cleaning and doing maintenance on bin wagons and different vehicles within the council vehicles, I got to know the basic operations of the different bodies the servicing hydraulic operations etc. I was asked if I would like to progress, I said yes and I was enrolled on to an apprenticeship at #Prestoncollege. Ive recently passed my EPA and just waiting to sit my theory exams then I will be a qualified technician 🤞🏻 I left school with no qualifications, I’ve now passed my English and maths exams at Preston college,But over the many years from leaving school I have learnt a lot from different jobs: groundwork’s, flagging, fencing, drainage, footings, concreting footings and bases, also working to plans. Plumbing level 1 & 2 city & guilds. Licences :car, pcv, class 2 I never thought about becoming a mechanic, I never had an interest in it, but now I’m enjoying it, I didn’t realise there was so much to learn. my head feels like a skip with all the information I’m taking in,I would like to learn and gain more information and experience about electric vehicles,I’m slowly but surely enjoying vehicle electrics, it’s a lot to learn, but with the right diagnostic equipment I’m finding it more interesting and enjoyable. I know it only diagnoses the problem and doesn’t fix it, but that’s how I feel I’m learning more and when I come across a same problem, I more or less know what the fault is.I’m 45 years of age and I never imagined becoming a vehicle technician at my age, it’s been a complete change and I’m enjoying it, it’s a lot to learn and understand. I would strongly suggest that people should give it a go, especially getting into EV as that’s the way forward.I would like to progress even further, by moving up to management one day. Many people within the company have done so, and are good at what they are doing. My motto is.RESPECTCOMMUNICATE TEAMWORK (Respect each other, communicate with each other and teamwork, work together)There is a lot of negativity in a work place, but if all 3 are worked on, a lot could change in a work place, feel wanted not just wanted.
