Working in the service division of a mechanical contractor was a unique way to start my career and a decision I'm really glad I made. I enjoyed working in the mechanical rooms across Chicago, with some of the smartest technicians, pipe fitters, and building engineers around.The primary engineering tasks for existing facility commissioning projects included the following: documenting existing building mechanical and controls systems operation, analyzing the operations through on-site functional testing and data collection through building automation system trend logs, designing system retrofits and new sequences of operation to optimize existing system functionality while minimizing energy use, estimate project implementation costs, calculate electrical and natural gas usage reduction and project ROI, present array of options to client, manage the implementation of proposed solutions, verify energy savings through post-implementation data collection and calculation back-checking.
