Personal Role: As a Senior Designer, my primary role is to develop and produce 3D models and drawings for projects awarded to Velocious. Previous company, KWL Drillrig engineering, was bought out by Boart Longyear in Jan 2007. Shortly after acquisition, I was approached to establish and manage an engineering team to serve the KWL product line and the growing needs of a vastly increased production capability across various sites, both local and international. I built up and managed an Engineering team of 3 draftsman and 5 engineers. Subsequently, I moved into the Lead Designer role to focus on specific projects.Responsibilities included: Research and development of new products, (i.e. diamond drill rod handler) – including prototyping, lifecycle & field testing. Lead design reviews, DFMEA’s, Risk Assessments. Support, advice and mentoring to team members. 3D design and preparation of drawings.  Technical support and backup for the company’s Technical Services Group. Failure investigations, including Root Cause Analysis, Fish Bone and 5-Why techniques Preparation of Safety/Service alerts Data Management – Migrate CAD data from local file servers to web based PLM system (Windchill). Spare Parts - Creation of spare parts kits, parts books, recommended spares lists, rebranding OEM items with BLY part numbers. Team leader for Windchill (PDM tool which manages product lifecycle, version control, change management etc. for the company’s intellectual property).

Part owner of KWL from company startup in 2003 to acquisition by Boart Longyear in January 2007. I was primarily involved in the mechanical design and documentation of drill rigs and equipment, engaging external engineering consultants where required to perform engineering analysis, FEA, reports etc. and worked with tradesmen on the workshop floor during the manufacture of the drill rigs.Responsibilities included: Producing mechanical assembly, layout and detail drawings along with parts manual illustrations using 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor) for the in house manufacture of drilling rigs and drill rod handlers in our factory. Coordinating and overseeing fabrication and machining activities in our factory. Responsible for the company’s IT needs, selecting and procuring hardware and software requirements. Liaising with suppliers, contractors and customers. Developing and improving key business systems including data management, part numbering, job costing etc.

Relocated from Kalgoorlie to Perth and took role of design draftsman with UDR-KL which specialised in the design and manufacture of land based exploration drill rigs.Responsibilities included: Producing mechanical assembly, layout and detail drawings using 2D Autocad for the in house manufacture of drilling rigs in our factory. Interacting with people on the workshop floor during the fabrication and machining of components.

Kalgoorlie

Brought on board as an in house drafting resource for the business (drafting needs were previously outsourced to a third party). Primarily the drafting work involved producing mechanical, civil and structural drawings for the mining industry. I established a drafting team that peaked at a headcount of 4 during my tenure and held a senior role within the business. I was engaged in onsite project management during shutdowns and installation infrastructure at mines throughout the Goldfields, including Kambalda Nickel Operations, Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter, St Ives and Kanowna Belle.Responsibilities included: Preparing budget estimates for small projects, including civil, structural and pipework, both above ground in processing plants and in underground mines (e.g. de-watering). Planning projects, dealt with structural steel fabricators and shutdown personnel. Onsite project management during shutdowns and installations of new, or repairs to, mining infrastructure (Civil, Structural and Mechanical). Commercial and residential property drafting projects and structural inspections. Managing drafting team, including procurement of additional contract labour as required.

Kalgoorlie

I commenced work at KCGM as Trainee Draftsman in the Drawing Office of the Engineering and Site Services department. My role was to provide drafting resource to the engineers for the various projects and upgrades throughout the operations. Responsibilites included: Producing mechanical, civil and structural drawings all areas of the operations, including crushing, milling, conveying, CIL as well as underground works, such as blast doors and overhead cranes in underground workshops. Detail drawings of platforms & walkways, concrete plinths, foundations and bunds, civil drawings of holding dams, pipework, pumping stations. Providing prints and copies of drawing of legacy works to assist engineers with changes and upgrades.
