The Fire and Life Safety Educator role focuses on education of both youth and adults in the community. Primary ages of focus are youth under the age of 12 and those who are 65 plus for a city with a population of 300,000. A 5th Grade Fire Safety class, My Friend the Firefighter and Steps to Safety for Seniors are main courses taught.Community events, public meetings and school fairs are regularly attended, along with stand-alone classes. Partnerships with other community organizations are leveraged to be sure as many members of the public are aware of and taught about major Community Risks, such as cooking safety, falls and unauthorized use of fire. Certifications include Fire and Life Safety Educator, Fire Inspector and other Community Risk Reduction courses.
