As CEO of Georgia Landscape, I get to satisfy my passion for cultivating world-class green industry professionals on a daily basis. I also get to live out my childhood dream of spending every day outside getting my boots muddy, which is a bonus. Growing up watching my granddad work in the industry, I was determined to follow in his footsteps. When I was 18 I went to the University of Georgia to train as a Landscape Architect. Shortly after graduating, I founded Georgia Landscape. That was in 1993, and although a lot has changed in the industry since then, I’m happy to say that my love of landscaping has not. Over the years, Georgia Landscape has weathered droughts, a recession, and as of this year, a world pandemic. We’ve grown from a solo operation to a team of more than 50 landscape professionals, serving the commercial and residential community in North West Georgia. These incredible results are the result of the dedication and talent of our fantastic team. This business is as much about people as it is about plants. That’s why training, recognition, and reward are at the heart of our strategy. We call our team members Craftsmen and Caretakers because that’s what they are. We work hard to give them the respect and appreciation they deserve - how many people in this world would be willing to start their day at 6 am, rain or shine, just to make sure the project runs smoothly? I feel privileged to share a coffee with them each morning. I've learned that the greatest investment you can make is in your employees. Ongoing training, proper time off, and genuinely caring about your team can make the difference between a successful company and one that never quite makes it. That’s because a skilled, motivated team that knows its worth always provides excellent service. Beyond the workplace, we nurture a sense of community through our involvement with feeding and equipping ministries in Atlanta, Cambodia, and Venezuela. In the coming years, our team is looking forward to starting work on a new project with a local children’s home, which will provide them a better place to gather outside.
