About Matt Hipsey

I am an Associate Professor at UWA where I lead research in the area of aquatic system science and ecohydrology, and I work across a number of disciplines including hydrology, hydrodynamics, aquatic ecology and biogeochemistry. Our research aims to support management of our water resources, by understanding how water quality and the ecological values of water resources are impacted by humans through agricultural and urban developments, and through changes in climate.Specialties: • Water quality and pathogens in surface and coastal waters• Drivers of aquatic microbial interactions, algal blooms and nutrient flux pathways• Wetland ecohydrology and climate change impacts on wetland biodiversity• Quantifying the effect of hydro-climatological variability on water quality• Modelling aquatic ecodynamics - quantifying human impacts on wetlands and waterways• Modelling sediment biogeochemistry and acid sulfate soils impacts on aquatic systems
