Project in Experimental Petrology looking at the diffusion of volatiles in Earth's mantle and specifically the question of whether it occurs through the mineral lattice or via along grain boundaries - or a combination of the two.Extensive experimental and theoretical work was conducted and included the development of a wide range of laboratory and analytical skills

I was in charge of running the SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) facility within the department on a temporary contract as cover. I was responsible for scheduling users, determining sample requirements, preparing samples for analysis and training/supervising users. BSE, SE and CL imaging have been extensively used as well as EDS. I was offered the position having used the SEM extensively during my PhD research.

Designing drill programs for maximisation of resource estimates (coal) in the Bowen Basin, Queensland Australia. Production of resource estimates for publication to the Australian Stock Exchange and other interested parties. Working primarily with mapinfo.

Supervision of a drilling rig on an exploration program in coal mines in Queensland, Australia. The work included: 1) Supervision of the preparation of drill sites in accordance with legislative and client requirements 2) Supervision of the drilling process 3) Logging of recovered lithologies (core and chip) onto field portable applications 4) Geophysical interpretation and correction of logs 5) Ensuring all aspects of work were conducted safely and in line with legislative and client requirements.
