Additionally appointed as the Safety, Health, Environment and Fire (SHEF) Officer, chairing the SHEF committee and responsible for ongoing implementation of safety standards and improvements.Key Responsibilities• Manage civilian technical and logistics team, responsible for the maintenance, availability and safety of equipment and facilities. Portfolio included; the training estate, fleet of 15 boats/work vessels, high-pressure air systems, re-compression chambers, training tanks/pools, specialist dive gases and 200 sets of diving breathing apparatus• As Safety, Health, Environment and Fire (SHEF) Officer, chair the organisation’s SHEF committee, conduct audits and direct remedial actions to ensure safe delivery of diver training and compliance with relevant safety and environmental standards and practices.• Selected to lead a specialist overseas training team, co-ordinating with military diving instructors to plan and deliver a capability development package to an African international partner. This included working in a remote, challenging and culturally unfamiliar environment to understand the challenges faced by their team, deliver engineering and safety advice and produce a strategy for ongoing training co-operation in support of Foreign Office objectives.

Overview:Head of the Engineering Department, responsible to the Captain for the efficient management, training and welfare of 15 engineers whilst deployed in the challenging environment of the South Atlantic and Falkland IslandsKey Responsibilities:• Oversee internal repair and maintenance activities to ensure the Ship’s critical equipment was remained at the highest levels of efficiency and readiness• Liaise with external authorities and contractors to co-ordinate major repair activities, mandatory inspections and logistical support• Legally responsible for compliance with applicable UK and international maritime statutory legislation for engineering, safety and environmental requirements• As third-in-Command of the Ship, provide strong leadership in support of overall management objectives• As the senior firefighting and damage control expert, coordinate the response of the Ship’s crew of 40 to any onboard emergency, setting incident priorities and providing technical advice to the Captain during genuine incidents and complex battle damage exercisesKey Achievements:• Awarded personal commendation by the Head of British Forces in the South Atlantic for exceptional performance in this role• Planned and executed Ship’s refit period conducted overseas in South Africa. Liaised with commercial partners, overcame extraneous supply chain and budgetary constraints and established a strong relationship with overseas partners to successfully and safely deliver £1m of engineering works whilst de-conflicting other key Ship activity
