The unique process utilized by ENZAQ sets them apart from competitors, and for this reason the upscaling had to be meticulous so as to not negatively affect the process. Aside from upscaling, I worked to help test and optimise the existing plant at ENZAQ. I was also heavily involved in the production of standard operating procedures (SOP's), process flow diagrams (PFD's) and floorplans for both the existing and future plant. The exact details of my project scope would often change during this employment based on the needs of my managers, so it was crucial that I was able to readily adapt to change. I was required to communicate with vendors, scientists and other members of the Sanford research and development team. I also had to communicate with plant operators, so that I was able to learn the process inside-out in the first couple of weeks so that I could produce the relevant SOP's. Show less

I was required to work independently to research and develop my project prototype. The project which I was working on proved very difficult and I was faced with many setbacks and failures. Due to this, I needed to constantly be thinking outside of the box and adjusting to change so as to develop the best possible prototype in the limited time I had. The ability to persevere through negative results was a very important skill-set for this project.Although I worked independently on my inlet, I would often work closely with 3 other interns also concerned with inlet themed projects. For this reason, I also needed to work effectively in a team.I independently sourced the materials I wanted to test. To do this, I needed to communicate and discuss my ideas with many different vendors. Due to the nature of importing materials from America/Australia, many of my materials came at different time intervals, this required me to uphold excellent time management skills so that I could still make progress in my project, despite a lack of resources.I also had to test, analyse and draw conclusions on results pertaining to my finished project. At the end of my internship (and a couple of times during) I had to do a company-wide presentation, showcasing my findings and results to managers and staff alike. I was hired as an intern, but was subsequently kept on for 2 years on a casual contract. In this job I became very proficient with many lab testing techniques with regard to aggregate analysis. I prepared professional reports pertaining to these results for client use. The results of my tests had real and significant impacts on various projects, for this reason, I had to be very accurate and consistent with my testing. I often needed to conduct tests outside of the laboratory (at the construction sites), carrying out these external tests meant I had to communicate effectively and efficiently with construction workers on site. I was often required to communicate scientific ideas to people without a scientific background, so that they knew what I was doing on site. Once I had experience in some of the lab testing techniques, I would often help train new staff in the technical aspects of the methodology. On two occasions I was required to speak in-front of a large portion of the transport and infrastructure teams. These presentations were designed to summarise my work for the year and to show how I had developed as an intern.I was awarded the prestigious award of "Funniest Christmas Quiz Entry" in 2016.
