I've spent my life delivering great software. Great software cares about the user. It doesn't have defects. It is intuitive regardless of its complexity. It is satisfying to use. All products reflect the culture in which they are created. A culture that values quality over deadlines, data over opinion, and people over process will sustainably deliver the best products.Producing great software isn't impossible. It isn't even very difficult. But it requires building an organization of people and values, rather than one of resources and processes. It most fervently upholds its values when it is hardest to do so. Such an organization values leaders over managers. Where managers make decisions, leaders coach self organization. Where managers impose deadlines, leaders find bottlenecks and expand them. Where managers punish, leaders inspire.I've spent my career delivering great software by instilling this type of culture. First as a developer, then into leadership and coaching roles. I've worked at huge companies and tiny startups. I've delivered finance, tax, telecom, health care, Internet, and manufacturing systems for customers and internal use. I've led small teams of a few people and lectured and taught organizations of thousands. I’ve coached senior executives and taught interns.
