About Matt Mccune

Program Director (Expert appt.) at the National Science Foundation in the Division of Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems in the Directorate for Engineering. Most of my day-to-day involves supporting the EPMD, NQVL, QLCI, ExpandQISE, TAQS, and NNCI programs and several Working Groups (Quantum Information Science & Engineering, Quantum Workforce Development, and Quantum Engineering) where the focus is on "developing next-generation quantum technologies and devices for sensing, information processing, communications, and computing."------------I am interested in all things related to science research, from the research itself, to its dissemination through science communication and outreach initiatives, and sustainability through advocacy efforts to improve science policy and funding.------------While pursuing a Ph.D., I became aware of the disconnect between the value of scientific research and the public’s understanding and appreciation of it. This led me to join science outreach, public engagement, and science communication efforts at Mizzou and, ultimately, to government relations.I have advocated on the state and federal levels for improvements to student loan policy, international student visa policy, open access, open educational resources, higher education funding, R&D funding, and other policy issues that affect student accessibility to advanced degrees.Through such efforts, I realized that my skills may better benefit the scientific community by applying them to policy.

Listed skills include Research, Physics, Public Speaking, Higher Education, and 18 others.
