Led Pew’s research on state and local correctional health care. Examined states’ and localities’ spending to care for people in prisons and jails; monitoring of health care quality; and promising practices for facilitating care continuity after release. This work helped policymakers assess and improve their correctional health care systems. Also managed research for Pew's Fiscal 50: State Trends and Analysis, an online resource that helps policymakers gain insights into fiscal, economic, and demographic trends affecting their states.

Conducted research with the State Health Care Spending Project, an initiative of The Pew Charitable Trusts and the MacArthur Foundation that comprehensively examined major program areas. Led work on state prison health care and state employee health plans, among other areas. Frequently served as spokesperson.

Contributed to the development of a two-year, board-approved health care research initiative. Worked collaboratively in project teams on coordinating and conducting primary research and writing and editing papers and Stateline feature stories. Developed talking points and presentations on state fiscal and economic issues for senior staff. Planned and facilitated convenings of policymakers, researchers, advocates, reporters, and other opinion leaders.

Spearheaded and participated in advocacy campaigns related to affordable housing, income supports, workforce development, and tax policy. Campaigns led to the appropriation of more than $40 million for SOME’s priorities. Collaborated with advocacy partners to conduct research, analyze hard data, review literature, and develop policy recommendations. Coordinated advocacy department’s communications strategy and drafted communications to policymakers, SOME’s grassroots network and the media, including fact sheets, issue briefs, testimony, and web content. Managed the department’s social justice education and client engagement programs, facilitating interactive sessions with SOME volunteers who wished to explore issues surrounding poverty and homelessness and what they can do to make a positive difference. Organized SOME’s clients to participate in relevant advocacy campaigns.

Aided Dr. Michelle Miller-Adams, a visiting scholar, with a review of economic development literature for her book, The Power of a Promise: Education and Economic Renewal in Kalamazoo.

Assisted peers seeking internships, post-graduate employment, and advanced study opportunities. Developed and delivered presentations. Promoted to supervisory position.
