About Matt Minner
I currently serve as the Education Sector Lead on the Agency Planning & Implementation team in the Division of Energy Management. I work closely with the New York Public Schools Division of School Facilities and the School Construction Authority to develop and execute a plan for the public school portfolio that ensures compliance with New York City goals. I attained my Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin where I studied Supply Chain Management at the McCombs School of Business. After I graduated in 2016, I joined Amazon in their fulfillment operations organization. During my time at the company, I established myself as a strong leader who learns on his feet. I gained incredible experience launching new facilities while establishing and maintaining a culture as a manager and driving performance. During my seven years with the company, I earned high regards from my peers, my superiors, and my direct reports. While also fine-tuning my leadership style, I have also gained industry experience from one of the world's premiere e-commerce companies. In 2022, I finished my Masters in Public Administration from NYU's Wagner School of Public Service where I majored in public policy analysis. In addition to completing a capstone project on the effects of Hurricane Sandy on housing markets, I also took classes in economics, sustainability, and advanced empirical methods to gain a better understanding of how public institutions can better the lives of their constituents. My hope is to continue to leverage this knowledge, in tandem with professional experience, to leave the world better than I found it.My professional and educational experiences have helped me develop a well-rounded set of skills that I hope to continue to apply to the problem of climate change and the sustainability of our society. My roles with Amazon and New York City government have allowed me to get my hands dirty in fast paced environments working on complex problems. Please feel free to reach out if my background or experiences can be of any help.

Area Manager
In the fall of 2016, I launched a fulfillment center with Amazon in Southern California as an area manager in the outbound department where I oversaw the shipment of over 400,000 packages weekly. In this role, I was tasked with maximizing productivity and minimizing waste while ensuring top standards were upheld in quality and safety. I regularly analyzed data to understand gaps in performance and execute process improvements. I also managed a team of over 50 hourly employees, handling administrative tasks like processing vacation requests and delivering performance feedbacks. In June, I was transferred to a new fulfillment center in New Jersey where I was asked to identify opportunities within the outbound team and assist with the implementation of best practice techniques. I have focused on the optimization of the outbound dock processes to ensure productivity and quality outputs were meeting network standards.Beginning in October, I will be joining my second launch team for a streamlined launch leading directly into the peak season. I will assume the day to day management role I previously held at my first site with a larger team overseeing more volume.
Operations Leadership Intern
During my internship with Amazon Fulfillment, I shadowed an area manager and focused on honing my management skills. I worked on a variety of projects centered around process improvement. My projects included:- Improving Area Readiness: I implemented processes that allow associates to begin working promptly at the start of shifts, enforcing consistency of area readiness across all shifts. This included evaluating associate productivity in the first hour, and raising building standards up to company benchmarks. This lead to a 4% increase in first hour productivity in just one month. I also gathered and developed data relating to associate productivity that lead to a $90,000 annual cost savings for the fulfillment center I was stationed in.- Expanding the Role of Indirect Functions: I spent time studying how to add responsibilities to indirect functions on the production floor in order to reallocate the attention of management. This process change allowed management to focus more on long term continuous improvement. In addition to my projects, I attended an internship summit at Amazon's headquarters in Seattle. This summit allowed me to engage a number of company leaders and learn a lot about how to improve my leadership capabilities in any environment.
