Matt Mitchell is an accomplished development executive specializing in building a slate from the ground up in both drama and factual genres, with a focus on content that travels across regions, reaching and entertaining global audiences. After graduating in 2020 with an MFA from University of Southern California (USC)’s prestigious Peter Stark Producing Program, Matt was recruited by Amazon Studios in LA and sent to Japan to launch its new slate of original content on Prime Video, the second largest market for the platform outside of the US and the most popular streaming service in Japan. In the last three years, Matt has greenlit and produced four drama and comedy series and a feature film, totaling over $60 million in production spend. All projects delivered on schedule and on budget. Matt’s first production in Japan launched to enthusiastic reviews and has since secured a second season. The remaining four titles to be launched include an action series based on a world-renowned IP, and is the most highly anticipated launch for Prime Video in Japan this year. Matt's role has since expanded to cover development for the Asia-Pacific region. Before pursuing his MFA in Los Angeles, Matt was a development producer in Toronto, Canada. First with Muse Entertainment (The Kennedys), where he contributed to the development of factual series that sold to Reelz Network, Velocity and A&E. Matt then joined Proper Television/Boat Rocker Media (MasterChef Canada) as a development producer, where he spearheaded a slate of original series with networks such as Discovery, CTV, CBC, Food Network, Red Bull TV and History. Matt is passionate about leveraging the best talent and resources from countries throughout the world, to produce elevated, brand-defining series and movies with bold and diverse voices that challenge the status quo.
