Since 2014, I have been an Employment Specialist with Enable (Shropshire C.C), successfully supporting individuals with Mental Health issues into sustainable employment. Being a part of a motivated team has given me the opportunity to witness IPS (Individual Placement and Support) make a real difference to the lives of people managing mental health issues and barriers to employment. Becoming the Training Co-ordinator at Enable has been a valuable opportunity to deepen my knowledge of IPS and equally the powerful TSI model, developing a three day training course, working with those who support individuals with learning disabilities, including consultant learners in the this powerful training.Whilst at Enable I have: • Attained position as Senior Team Leader • Attained joint role as Training Co-ordinator• Developed and delivered online Employer Engagement Training• Written and delivered, nationally, successful face to face courses in IPS, TSI (Training in Systematic Instruction) and Employer Engagement• Been involved in the creation of the successful IPS Grow online training course (Future Learn) for IPS Employment Specialists, contributing two key modules• Completed a 6 year 1st Class BA hons degree in English Literature and Creative Writing (Open University)Prior to joining Enable I worked in the transport industry helping to the run the family business, Tanat Valley Coaches on the Welsh border. Managing staff and both commercial and retail workshops. I joined Enable at Shropshire County Council as an Employment Officer and soon was inspired by the supported employment that I was trained to use in my support of clients into paid work. Individual Employment Support (IPS) is the evidence based model that is proven to be the most effective way to get people with mental health issues and want to work, into work. Seeing IPS in action feulled my desire to progress and support others.I began my involvement at Enable by working on a pilot project that tested how effective IPS is in supporting individuals with primary mental health issues (IAPT)This pilot was successful and was extended beyond the 6 month period to an 16 month project.I then became an Employment Officer in the Secondary Mental Health team, supporting individuals in and around Bridgnorth, Market Drayton and Shrewsbury.
