I have been working for Shropshire Council as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the community mental health service, supporting people suffering from various mental health illnesses into employment and during employment. This has involved working on a one-to-one basis with clients, following the IPS model, working through their CV’s, job searching, interview techniques, liaising with any care coordinators involved to provide the best care and employment pathways possible. The role also involves employer engagement, liaising with large companies and organisations to identify suitable work opportunities.

Sandwell And West Bromwich

Leading a team in the Sandwell area to provide an Individual Placement Support (IPS) model for individuals with health conditions which impacts on their ability to gain work, assisting them to obtain and sustain employment that is consistent with their vocational goals, following the principles of IPS. Whilst providing this support to our clients, I am also engaging with various clinical teams within primary care settings and different community teams to generate referrals and build an understanding of the support we offer. This is working to a target lead practice, to enable the greatest outcome for the trial. Whilst leading my team I host staff meetings on a weekly basis to ensure effective communication and monthly 1:1 supervisions with all in the team, ensuring best practice at all times.

Welshpool

I worked as a recovery coach in a private mental health unit, working alongside clients with long term enduring mental health problems. This ranged from psychotic illnesses to substance misuse problems. This role consisted of showing empathy to the clients, encouraging them to engage with others and take part in activities within the unit and in the community to help improve their social skills. I also assisted the nursing staff with all professional nursing duties; this ranged from ensuring clients took their medication safely and correctly, to completing client documentation to a high standard.
