    Recruited by project management to spearhead a change in direction of a stalled 5 year re-engineering of  an OpenVMS and C based ETL to a Win/SQL Server/SSIS based ETL process. Mandate was to provide a  proof-of-concept for a portion of the re-engineered ETL that was taking approximately 6 hours compared  to 45 minutes on the legacy platform.● Implemented Scala solution on Apache Spark architecture● Custom functional pipeline framework to allow for chaining of composable transform steps● Utilized both high-level DataFrame API transformations as well as lower level pure Scala where  required to avoid unnecessary shuffling● Unit testable design through careful separation of Scala code from Spark dependencies and calls  (current and legacy platforms had no unit tests)● CI and deployment chain created using Azure DevOps, deploying into Azure Databricks as a job jar● Custom integration test platform in pure Scala to deploy test case data and databases, exercise  the Spark jobs, and compare written SQL outputs to CSV data maintained by QA (current and  legacy platforms had no integration testing)● Mentoring of developers to assist in gaining familiarity with Scala and Spark● Implementation of code review process via Azure DevOps● Final PoC implementation took 6 minutes end-to-end with greater data accuracy, and was  approved by the board as the platform to continue forward with
